The International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) fosters safe and efficient derivatives markets to facilitate effective risk management for all users of derivative products. ISDA has over 1000 member institutions from 76 countries, encompassing a wide range of market participants. These include corporations, investment managers, government and supranational entities, insurance companies, energy and commodities firms, and international and regional banks. ISDA membership also includes key components of the derivatives market infrastructure, such as exchanges, intermediaries, clearing houses, trade repositories, law firms, accounting firms, and other service providers.
ISDA members are classified into one of three categories: Primary (dealer firms), Associate (service providers), or Subscriber (end-users).
ISDA Primary Membership is designed for international and regional banks, insurance companies, diversified financial firms, and energy and commodities firms. It currently includes over 200 large global institutions that deal in derivatives. Every investment, merchant or commercial bank or other corporation, partnership or other business organization that, directly or through an affiliate, as part of its business (whether for its own account or as agent), deals in derivatives shall be eligible for election to membership in the Association as a Primary member, provided that no person or entity participates in derivatives transactions solely for the purpose of risk hedging or asset or liability management.
Members include key components of the derivatives market infrastructure, such as technology solution providers, exchanges, intermediaries, clearing organizations and repositories, as well as law firms, accounting firms and other service providers. Associate Membership provides a forum for industry participants to stay up to date with and influence important developments and initiatives. Any person or entity not eligible for membership in the Association as a Primary Member which provides professional or other similar services to persons eligible to be Primary Members or Subscriber Members (including, without limitation, law firms, accounting firms and consulting firms) shall be eligible for election to membership in the Association as an Associate Member.
Members include corporations, financial institutions, supranationals, government entities, and others that use derivatives to better manage financial risks. Subscriber Membership provides a forum for industry participants to stay up to date with and influence important developments and initiatives. Any person or entity (including, without limitation, end-users) not eligible for membership in the Association as a Primary Member or Associate Member shall be eligible for membership in the Association as a Subscriber.
